Ascaso STEEL Uno Professional - PID Version 4 Changes

As of April 2015 production:

  •  Ascaso is combining the ground/ pod system into one; this means: no more conversion kits!
  • New grouphead design (now made of 100% solid brass)
  • There are no internal changes from V3

Overview

The addition of the PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller on this (already great!) Ascaso espresso machine, provides even more cutting-edge technology and control for the espresso enthusiast and/ or gadgetry geek! The PID display mechanism allows the operator to program the temperature of the boiler with greater precision. This in turn, allows the home barista to fine-tune the water temperature to the specific needs of the particular blend of coffee being consumed. Some coffee blends require a moderate temperature of 195°F, whereas others demand the full extraction power of 204°F. Precision like this results ultimately, in a more perfectly-defined espresso!

In addition to the PID, the Ascaso STEEL Uno Professional-PID 4 espresso machine has incorporated many other improvements, over earlier versions:

  • Increased cup height between portafilter and drip tray (to 3.35 inches)
  • Lateral removable water reservoir (from right side) allows easy access for refilling and cleaning without moving the machine away from overhead cabinets. The clear reservoir also allows you view the water level.
  • The cool touch and multi-directional steam wand allows brief handling for moving the wand after steaming your milk
  • A rubber protector over the wand allows for holding the wand for longer periods of time (but not to exceed 5 seconds)
  • The steam wand is now made of stainless steel
  • The 325cL brass boiler (with nickel-plating) incorporates a professional grade three-way solenoid valve
  • The professional-grade 58mm portafilter handle is designed with a 10 degree tilt, for ergonomic handling
  • A non-slip grip on the portafilter handle, offers the home espresso aficionado the comfort of the professional barista
  • Highly polished filter baskets with micro-fine smooth holes offer superior extractions over standard baskets
  • Ascaso includes a solid aluminum tamper

Ascaso has outlined the following advantages of the STEEL Uno Professional over competing models in similar price ranges, and these include:

  • Large size cup warmer (~14.5" x 10.6")
  • PID display shows temperature of boiler in Celsius or Fahrenheit
  • Side rails (rear rail was removed from machines for the USA to provide greater area for cup warmer)
  • Exterior body completely made of stainless steel
  • Boiler over grouphead design allows water to evenly heat grouphead which leads to better espresso extractions
  • Steam wand is multi-directional, sizes at 10mm professional grade, is made of stainless steel (unlike the chrome-over-brass wand, found on other machines), and includes internal hard plastic lining for cool touch capability with one-hole steam tip
  • Ergonomic, no-slip grip, professional grade portafilter assembly knocks the socks off of the competition!

The main reason to get this machine is the taste of the espresso in the cup! The PID controller and thermal sensor on the boiler makes it happen at such an affordable price!

Like earlier models, the Ascaso STEEL Uno Professional-V4 requires approximately a 30-45 second wait time, to go from “coffee” mode to “steam” mode (after depressing the steam switch). One should always purge the steam wand before steaming/ frothing milk. After steaming milk, the operator can close the steam valve and depress the steam switch “off.” After placing a cup under the steam wand, the operator can rotate the steam valve/ knob to the “open” position, and the hot water switch must be depressed for the pump to activate, so that the water that is too hot can exit through the wand, and the temperature of the boiler can be brought down to make additional espresso. In “espresso coffee” mode, this machine can make back-to-back espressos until the reservoir runs out of water.

The professional-grade, three-way solenoid valve operates to relieve the pressure on the filter basket immediately when you depress the coffee switch to “off.” This prevents the so-called “explosion” of coffee grounds that commonly occurs on home espresso machines without three-way solenoid valves. The solenoid valve on this machine also assists in creating a dry puck after extraction (please note there are certain coffees, grinds, and amounts of coffee that will make a wet-extracted puck which no three-way valve can compensate for).

Ongoing cleaning and maintenance is critical with any espresso machine, but with the Ascaso STEEL Uno Professional it’s easy! Descale once every 3 months to remove the calcium/ magnesium build-up inside the machine. Backflush once every 50 espresso extractions. Clean the water reservoir once every 2 weeks, and the drip tray once every 3 days - each manually, a with non-abrasive dishwash detergent. To further protect your investment, plug the machine's electrical plug into a surge suppressor (1080 joules or higher). The surge suppressor should then be plugged directly into the wall outlet or a timer if you have one. In fact, if you do have a timer, make sure the coffee, hot water, and steam switches are in the “off” position (if accidentally left in the “on” position, machine could potentially be adversely affected, as timers have been known to cause surge damage).

Enjoy the Ascaso STEEL Uno Professional while preparing your favorite beverages, all in the comfort of your own home … espresso, cappuccino, latte, cafe americano, and hot chocolate, to name just a few!

Notes

  1. The instructional manuals for Ascaso are printed for worldwide distribution and covers almost every model produced worldwide. With this in mind, there may be features, accessories, or colors available in Ascaso equipment in other countries, but not available in our models produced for the United States.
  2. To program the boiler temperature, the operator needs to press the little "left” button on the temperature display and then immediately press the “right” button to show the program temperature. The left button can be pressed for each degree to decrease, and the right button can be pressed once for each degree to be increased.
  3. The right button on the temperature display can be pressed and held to shut off the PID controller. The PID controller will stay on even when the main power switch is shut off. When turned off, the PID controller will continue to display “OFF” until the machine is unplugged.
  4. If the unit arrives with a temperature display in Celsius, it can be changed. Before plugging the electrical cord to the electrical outlet, both buttons on the temperature display need to be depressed and held, while another person plugs the electrical cord into the electrical outlet. Once “F.03” is displayed, the two buttons can be released. Depress and release the “right” button once. It will display Celsius. Immediately depress the right button and “F” will display. Leave alone for 20 seconds, unplug the electrical cord from the electrical outlet, and then plug it back in after waiting 10 seconds. The display will now be in Fahrenheit.
  5. This is different from Version 3, in that the PID is now internally connected to the boiler. In previous versions it was connected to the outside of the boiler.

Changes to Orders Already Shipped

Once an item has been shipped, we normally cannot cancel or change the shipment. In the event that the item can be redirected or returned to us while in transit, you may be liable for any service fees we are assessed by the carrier. Alternatively, we can send a return label to you, once the item has been received.

Consequences of Refusal of Order Upon Delivery

Refusing a shipment does not comply with the terms of our Exchange & Return policy. It constitutes a breach of contract and will result in all shipping charges and a 50% restocking fee, being charged to the Customer, for any refused item(s).

SHIPPING TIMELINE

Prior to the order’s shipment from the warehouse, you can stay advised via Order Status; once your item(s) has/ have left the warehouse, you can monitor its progress via the Tracking Details email we will send, to confirm shipment.

Shipping timelines depend on a number of variables, including product availability, lead time, warehouse location and distance being shipped to client – while we make every effort to provide accurate shipping timelines, unfortunately, it is not an exact science, and so it is important to understand that timelines listed are only our best-educated estimate.

At The Concentrated Cup we fully understand the desire to receive your order(s) as soon as possible. With a focus on transparency, we have ensured that all of our products have associated “lead times” (e.g. “ships within 24-48 hours”). This information can be found on each product’s description page. The lead time specified on each product in our store indicates the current estimated time-frame for delivery. While the shipment calculator is a calibrated estimate, it is no guarantee of a specific delivery date.

Because we ship from warehouses located throughout the United States, please note that transit times may vary for different products. As an example, for a customer living in California, it may take 1-2 business days to receive an item that is shipped (via ground) from a warehouse located in California. However, it may take up to six (6) business days for the same customer to receive an item shipped (via ground) from our warehouse in New York.

Impact of Packaging/ Repackaging and Bench-Testing on Shipment Timelines

Before shipment, most or all espresso machines and grinders are removed from packaging and tested. This is done to ensure that they have arrived from the manufacturer without damage, and to add to or modify packaging, prior to final shipment. The majority of machines are also bench-tested – either at that time, or just prior to final shipment to customer, upon order. Please note that as a result of the bench-testing, grinders may retain some residue. Signs of opened packaging, or grind residue does not mean that the product was returned or used previously by another customer – these are merely indications of industry-standard bench-testing and shipping procedures, implemented to ensure receipt of quality products.

On occasion, this may add time to the process of preparing your order for shipment. If this is the case, The Concentrated Cup will be sure to keep you apprised of any delayed order status, and will forward tracking information, as soon as the shipment has left the warehouse and these details become available.

When Will My Order Ship?

If your order is in stock and we process the charges to your credit card, it will typically ship within five (5) business days from the date of your order.  We will send you tracking information within 24 hours of your order leaving the warehouse, to the email address you provided when checking out.  If you do not receive tracking information from us within six (6) business days of your order, please feel free to follow up with us at orders@concentratedcup.com.

SHIPPING CARRIERS

SHIPMENT DELIVERY: “DAMAGES IN TRANSIT” – CRITICAL TIMELINES & INFORMATION

Please inspect your package, when you receive it. All claims for shipping damages, defects (upon receipt) and missing items/ shortages must be made within five (5) calendar days of receipt of merchandise.

  • Box Damage: If you notice any apparent damages to the outer carton (e.g. gashes in the box/ box severely crushed/ internal packaging leaking peanuts/ creased corners), please alert the driver/ carrier immediately, and be sure to indicate this damage as a notation when signing the shipping documents for delivery.
  • Concealed Damages: If you notice any concealed damages from shipping, please contact us within five (5) calendar days of receipt of merchandise.
  • Packaging: Please make sure that you keep ALL packaging (boxes, shipping labels, peanuts, etc.) as the respective carrier inspector will need to inspect the package. Failure to keep and return all packaging will render all applicable exchange, return and/ or refund privileges null and void and possibly warranty policies, as well.

If your order arrives with visible damage, please do NOT use the merchandise. The carrier will deem the shipment to be “accepted and acceptable” or “used,” and consequently will not issue a claim number, nor pay for the damages which occurred in transit.

If there is no damage visible on your new espresso machine, please check the operation of the machine with water only first, to inspect for internal damages, which would show water leakage. If there is water leakage, please contact us within five (5) calendar days, and please unplug the equipment.

If there is no damage visible on your new grinder, please turn it on without beans first, to inspect for any strange noises. Similarly, if any damage is noted, please contact us within five (5) calendar days, and discontinue any further use.

Please be advised that we cannot issue a replacement, exchange or refund unless a Damaged Merchandise Agreement claim number is issued. Please see “Damaged Merchandise Notification” page for further details on the process, and to begin a claim.

PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE

At The Concentrated Cup, ensuring that we provide the absolute best online value and service to our clients is our top priority. In the event that you do find a lower price on an item of identical make and model, from a competitor who has the item in stock and is able to electronically fulfill your order, we will gladly match it.* This is our Price Match Guarantee.

If you wish to take advantage of our guarantee (prior to purchase), please complete the Price Match Request form by clicking on the button at the bottom of this page with the specifics of the competitor’s advertised offer info, to submit your proposed price match to us. Once approved (please see our “Terms and Conditions,” below), we will provide you with the details of our adjusted price match verification. The item must be a verifiable, advertised online price.

*Please note that the following Terms and Conditions apply to all requests for Price Match:

  • The Concentrated Cup matches prices of US-located online retailers, ONLY. Competitor must be a Manufacturer-Authorized Retailer of the merchandise.
  • Requests for price matching must be made at the time of purchase. We will be unable to honor any price match requests made after the transaction has been processed.
  • Price matched orders cannot be combined with any other offer or coupon. To determine verifiable lowest price, please consider the competitor’s complete package offering (inclusive of any additional charges or shipping fees), when comparing prices.
  • The item from our competitor’s site must be new (not refurbished or returned merchandise), and in stock (available for purchase with the competitor).
  • “Accessories” do not qualify for this guarantee, and cannot be price matched.
  • No items from an “Auction,” “Discounter” or “Closeout” website (e.g. Overstock, eBay, etc.) will be considered for price matching. These items are often being sold at a loss, and as we cannot sell an item for less than our cost, we cannot price match this kind of discounting.
  • Free shipping may no longer apply.
  • Special promotional offers (including free items) may no longer apply.
  • Please Note: We regret to advise that at this time no price match guarantee is offered on any Astoria products.
  • The Concentrated Cup reserves the right to decline a price match request at its sole discretion.
